Giacomo Casanova

Fact or fiction? Fact!

Quoting wikipedia: "In his autobiography Histoire de ma vie (Story of My Life), regarded as one of the most authentic sources of the customs and norms of European social life during the 18th century, he mentions 122 women with whom he had sex."

I don't even know if I HAVE 122 guy friends or acquaintances. So this man was REALLY popular. I don't even think 'players' (or manhoes) nowadays can beat this Casanova guy (or do they... maybe I DON'T want to know) Funny, it doesn't say here that he died of STDs.... I would imagine that he probably had a whole bunch of STDs (or is it STIs now?): syphilis.. gonorrhea (as well as chlamydia co-infection :P). Did they even have condoms at that time? Well it did say on the site that "He used charm, guile, threats, intimidation, and aggression, when necessary, to conquer women, sometimes leaving behind children or debt."

This guy was a player... but he was an intelligent player (or did he genuinely like them at that point in time?) that used his charm and wits to impress/get the girls. Some would say that he treats women as objects... but it ends by saying (the article): "Unusually for his time, Casanova was egalitarian towards the sexes. He accepted women as his equals and was non-judgmental about their behaviour, according them the same status to do as they wished as he did men."

Makes me wonder: what was the definition of hot during those days? Did people look the same? (I highly doubt it... or maybe they did it's just the clothes really make a difference). Hm.... does Heath Ledger come close to the original Casanova?

The beginning.

After 4 years with xanga, it's time to try something new. As with various aspects of my life, it's time to look forward and be optimistic :)
